The Tokyo toilet project

Designed by architect Shigeru Ban, these innovative public toilets form part of a project that providing redesigned facilities in 17 locations around Shibuya. Each location given over to a different designer.

They brilliantly address the two main fear factors of using public toilets – how clean they are, and is there anyone else inside.

The glass structures are illuminated at night, and when the user locks the doors, the glass turns opaque to provide privacy.
